The Shamoji Form

The shamoji is the traditional Japanese rice paddle, a wide, flat, slightly curved blade on a handle. It's been the standard tool for rice in Japan since a monk in the 18th century invented the form. The shape works because it scoops rice without the grain-cutting edge of a spoon or the force of a spatula. This one is made from solid walnut, finished with food-safe hard wax oil, and built for a lifetime of rice nights.

Gentle on Grains

Wood doesn't cut rice. The wide flat paddle blade moves rice by scooping and lifting, not dragging. Every grain makes it to the bowl intact. This matters more than it sounds.

No Stick. No Smell.

Solid hardwood doesn't absorb odors the way plastic does. It doesn't leach chemicals. It doesn't smell like yesterday's fried rice. Hand wash, dry, done.

Food Safe

Finished with the same food-safe hard wax oil used on every AWG utensil and cutting board. 100% plant-based, food contact safe in wet and dry states.
