About AWG

Afoot wood goods was founded to bring fun and fresh perspective to household items. In a world where everything is just more of the same, we want our designs to go against the grain and stand out. We take pride in producing handcrafted, small-batch, wonderfully wonky items to the utmost quality and originality.

Where folk meets function.

We are intrigued by the intersection of art and function. An item is either art or it serves a function. But why not design something that can be both functional and visually creative. We love to incorporate a whimsical, folksy sense of design into our items with fun figures, repurposing of materials and creative use of natural features. We always aim to bring originality, creativity and quality to our designs.

Creative craftsmanship

Everything we build is built to last. Through quality craftsmanship, repairability/ mendability, and by using quality, hardy materials we make sure our goods stick around for decades to come. We love the Japanese philosophy of Wabi - Sabi, an idea that encourages people to find beauty in imperfections and accept transience. Working with a natural material such as wood, there’s no shortage of “imperfections”. Whether it be knots, sap stains, pits, piths, cracks, streaks, insect damage, or even disease, working with the wood instead creates beautiful imperfections that add to the uniqueness of a piece. We love to incorporate imperfections into our pieces, sometimes even making them a feature.

Less of the same

We can’t mass produce our goods, but we can keep the quality high, create unique pieces and use sustainable practices. We want to make goods our customers will value and cherish, not just make things for the sake of making a buck. The world is filled with junk, not necessarily useless but when quality and compassion are compromised these objects tend never to be of much value to anyone who isn’t selling them. So often are things just mindlessly bought because they are cute or were on trend (for all of two weeks) just to be cast away once the newest look comes around or thrown away because it was poorly made. We choose to do things differently.

Let’s revisit

We want to bring the days where everything you owed was truly valued. Whether it be a pair of socks, jacket, table, towel or just a pen it was cherished because of quality, and wasn’t so easy to make but it lasted. Admittedly in these modern days it is much easier to produce goods cheaper but it just led to the decrease in the quality of goods and not much else. In a world where everything is immediate, unlimited options, and infinite styles, why does it seem like not much of anything is well made, hand made and/ or responsibly made. We want to bring back the craftsmanship and make things that last.
